Open Shop - Spoon Carving

Service Description

This spoon carving class will be held in tandem with other activities. There will be instruction and oversight from your instructor, but their attention may be split between other students. This carving activity is more self self-lead than the full spoon carving class. The bulk of the instruction will be provided with broad strokes and demonstrations. Written instructions will also be available online. If you have questions, find your instructor tor for specific questions. Our teaching method during Open Shop nights is to allow students to explore on their own. We will provide the main safety instructions and general directions, but it will be up to the student to follow the instructions with concise but minimal direction. The idea behind this method is to encourage critical thinking skills, collaboration with neighboring crafters, and problem-solving. If you have additional questions about safety or technique, please ask us, however, the goal for this workshop model is to have many self-lead projects occurring in the woodshop, rather than hosting very in-depth classes. This hands-off teaching method and hands-on learning method is intentional to allow more students into the space at any given time, rather than scheduling one type of class per session. This is a bit of an experiment so thank you for your patience as we figure out what works best for us and our makers.
